Privacy

The short version: no account, no ads, no tracking cookies, no names. A few technical details are logged to keep the site running and see how many people play.

What is stored on your device

Your games, best scores, daily streak and the name you type (if any) are saved in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device and you can delete them by clearing this site's data in your browser.

What the server logs

  • Page visits: your IP address, browser and operating system (from the user agent), the page and the time. Used to count visitors and spot abuse. Deleted after 90 days.
  • Approximate location of an IP address: country and city are looked up once per address with ip-api.com, which receives the IP address for that lookup.
  • Anonymous game statistics: that a game was started, finished or shared, the score, the game mode, the country (as reported by Cloudflare) and the site that linked you here. These are tied to a random number that changes every time you open the page — not to your IP address or name. Deleted after 12 months.
  • Photo reports: which photo was reported and why. Your IP address is only used, in memory, to limit how many reports one person can send per day.

Who else is involved

  • Cloudflare delivers the site and protects it from attacks, so it handles every request (their privacy policy).
  • Esri (ArcGIS) serves the map images, so your browser contacts their servers when the map is shown (their privacy policy).
  • Ko-fi handles donations. The "Buy me a coffee" button is a plain link: nothing is loaded from Ko-fi unless you click it, and then their privacy policy applies.
  • Fonts, scripts and photos are served from this site itself — nothing is loaded from Google or social networks.

Why this is allowed

The visit log and the anonymous statistics are kept on the basis of legitimate interest (GDPR article 6(1)(f)): running a small free website securely and knowing whether people use it. Nothing is sold, shared for advertising or used to build a profile of you.

The people in the photos

The portraits come from Wikimedia Commons under free licences and the birthplaces from Wikidata. If one of them is you, open the credits page and press "Remove" next to your photo; it disappears from the game within two days.

Your rights and contact

You can ask what is stored about you, ask for it to be deleted, or object to it, at [email protected]. You can also complain to your data protection authority (in the Netherlands, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
